Cabinet cards were a popular photographic format in the late 19th century. They were introduced in the 1860s and gained widespread popularity in the 1880s. These cards typically measured 4.25 inches by 6.5 inches and featured a photographic print mounted on a sturdy cardboard backing.
The larger size of cabinet cards compared to earlier formats like cartes de visite allowed for more detailed and elaborate portraits. Photographers often incorporated elaborate backdrops, props, and poses to create visually striking images. Cabinet cards were popular for family portraits, individual portraits, and even group photos.
The decline of cabinet cards began in the late 19th century with the advent of new photographic technologies and formats. However, they remain a significant part of photographic history and are highly sought after by collectors.

I was disappointed in the photos I purchased as the picture you showed was of the older heavier ones but, I received the flimsy newer photos and was not what I wanted. The box of 1lb ephemera was also a little disappointing as I threw away a lot of stuff that was not worth using. (But I guess that is on me). I didn’t want to fill this out but you said you wanted to hear from me so here it is. I liked the very old Monopoly money and the Bingo papers which is about it. Some of the paper pages sent are cracking and falling apart I’ll try to use some of it but not sure how much. Sorry for this but was very disappointed in the purchase. Wrapping paper, 8X10 picture went straight to the trash just to name a few items. Thanks anyway.
